Mental Health in Children/Adolescents and How to Support Them
Have you noticed your child seeming a little off lately? Maybe they're more irritable than usual, withdrawn, or just not themselves? If you're picking up on these signs and wondering what's really going on beneath the surface, you're not alone, and you're in the right place.
Welcome to another installment of my video blog series, where I explore important mental health topics that come up in my work with children, adolescents, and families. Over the past couple of months, I've seen an increase in the number of young people struggling with everything from anxiety and depression to more severe concerns like self-harm. And through all of these cases, I've noticed something crucial that I want to share with parents and caregivers.
In this video, we're going to talk about the inner dialogue happening inside your child's mind, the one you're not always privy to as a parent or adult. We'll explore why kids often believe things about themselves that aren't 100% accurate, how these belief systems get strengthened over time, and what signs to look for when your child might be struggling. Most importantly, I'm going to share the one piece of advice that can make the biggest difference: how curiosity and presence can help your child feel seen and heard. And in the next video, I'll provide some practical tools and resources you can use at home to support your child's mental health and wellbeing.
